I can usually tell when cookies, cakes, pizza, etc. are done by the smell. You can train yourself to recognize the right time by making note of how your kitchen smells right about the time when the timer goes off. Unless I’m distracted, I seldom miss taking anything I’m baking out of the oven when it smells done.
