Good idea for emergency type use . However , I suspect that using clay blocks would be stronger. I am told that they withstand heat.

Thanks for the idea, this was fun to try… I used single cell blocks at a total cost of $2.65. I cut the side wall of one blocks to create the opening to the chimney and used that cutout as a door that controlled the airflow into the burn chamber. Uses 1/10 the fuel a traditional fire would and gives great heat control with my makeshift door and puts all the heat where I need it under a single burner. Next…. a Pizza oven!

Ive heard that some bricks pop or explode under heat and fire, are these bricks you are using fire bricks.

The “one” open ended block is not readily available. I checked Menards, Home Depot, Lowes and some smaller places. None of them carry that block.
