Officina82’s innovative approach to the renovation of an abandoned rye barn nestled in the Italian Alps brings together traditional materials like wood and stone with sustainable design principles. The LOFT, part of the Selucente accommodation project, preserves the original stone structure while introducing modern elements such as a new mezzanine floor with expansive dormer windows, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding valley. This transformation not only revitalizes the abandoned space but also serves as a testament to the studio’s commitment to blending heritage preservation with contemporary design.

Situated within the broader revitalization effort for the Alpisella alpine hamlet, Officina82’s renovation project represents a sustainable model for rural restoration. By utilizing cost-effective interventions and drawing inspiration from traditional Alpine architecture, such as shepherd huts and barns, the studio seeks to reimagine the built heritage of rural Italy. Through meticulous attention to detail, including the use of eco-friendly materials like wood fiber insulation and pigmented cement flooring, Officina82’s design approach respects the authenticity of the original structure while meeting the modern housing needs of today’s inhabitants.

How to Build a Barn https://goodshomedesign.com/how-to-build-a-barn/ https://goodshomedesign.com/how-to-build-a-barn/#comments Fri, 28 Nov 2014 00:25:46 +0000 http://goodshomedesign.com/?p=23089 barn-1

The next barn had such a big success and everyone liked it so much, that the owners dedicated an entire site to the construction. Since they were receiving so many questions about the barn, a website with all the information seemed a great idea. On the webpage you can find detailed instructions about how the barn was constructed, as well as the dimensions of it. The whole idea started from building a single barn, and then another one was constructed since the horses have outgrown it. With this step the original construction was rehabilitated too. The top of the barn is covered in light panels so the horses can get enough sunlight. The biggest challenge for the owners, seemed to be the connecting of the barns, but as you can see from the pictures, they managed to do a great job. Good luck if you think about implementing the same project!
