How To Transfer a Photo To Canvas https://goodshomedesign.com/how-to-transfer-a-photo-to-canvas/ https://goodshomedesign.com/how-to-transfer-a-photo-to-canvas/#comments Tue, 15 Jul 2014 03:38:33 +0000 http://goodshomedesign.com/?p=18727 Transfer-a-Photo-to-Canvas

Having a good painting hanging on the wall isn’t a thing that DIY enthusiasts can’t handle. With no artistic painting skills or a big wallet, you could use a simple photo and no more than $10 to turn your room into your very own art gallery. Materials needed:

  • any photo (on regular printer paper);
  • any size canvas (preferably the two match);
  • gel medium (i.e. Studio Multi-Medium);
  • paint brush;

First, completely coat your canvas with the gel medium. Make sure you get inside all of the lumps in the canvas and the gel-covered surface is as smooth as possible; you don’t want any bubbles. Spread the medium until the surface becomes shiny. Afterward, put the photo (picture side down) and make sure it’s exactly in position because you can’t really move it while you start the process of transferring the image by gently pressing on the surface. You can wrap the edges of the photo if it’s larger than the canvas, or just leave it like that. Continue to press until you have no more wrinkles left. Try not to get the gel on top of the paper because it will ruin the transfer. Let to dry for 24 hours, so the ink will get really well into the canvas.

Use a damp sponge to saturate your paper. If there are any white spots, make sure you sponge them especially. But don’t stress about it to much, as it’s not intended to be a perfect transfer. Next, when the paper is completely saturated, gently sponge the paper away (it will peel off easily). Don’t go many times across one area though, because it will peel the image off as well! Use your hand (don’t use nails) in a movement similar to that you use with the sponge. Let it dry for a while (an hour or so) and then repeat the technique. It takes about three times to make it look great. Congratulation! Your artwork is finished. You can hang it like that or apply a gloss seal on top, to give it a professional look.

Photo Coasters: Perfect Gift For any Mom, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa https://goodshomedesign.com/photo-coasters-perfect-gift-mom-dad-grandma-grandpa/ https://goodshomedesign.com/photo-coasters-perfect-gift-mom-dad-grandma-grandpa/#comments Tue, 18 Mar 2014 20:54:21 +0000 http://goodshomedesign.com/?p=15471 photo-coasters

There comes a time when you have a brilliant decorating idea but don’t have the courage to try it in your home. This tutorial will show you that you shouldn’t worry and follow you instincts, especially if it involves a DIY project. Turning tiles into photo coasters is a kind of handmade project whichwill make you fall in love with DIY projects. Here is what you need to do and have:

• uncoated 4 inches tile(s);
• fingernail polish remover;
• a Bone folder;
• a foam brush (get 2 or three if you’re doing a lot);
• colored copies from Kinkos;
• scissors;
• a sheet of clear acetate;
• a pair of cheap latex gloves;
• a tile sealer;

First of all, you need to know ink jet prints don’t work that well when transferred on tiles, so it’s recommended you use colored copies from Kinkos to print the photos on. Then, put the tiles in the microwave and heat it a bit before working on the transfer. Make sure the photo is fitted to the size of your tile and place it picture-down on it. Brush nail polish remover on the back side. Don’t move the picture from its place! Take the sheet of acetate and stick it over the picture and use the bone folder to rub the whole surface with patience. Check slowly if the ink was transferred by slowly lifting the corners. Now, temporarily remove the sheet and apply more nail polish remover and then continue to use the bone folder. Apply a couple of coats of the tile sealer. The image doesn’t transfer perfectly (or entirely), but this will give the entire coaster a nice effect.

How To Transfer A Photo To Wood – Video Tutorial https://goodshomedesign.com/transfer-photo-wood-video-tutorial/ https://goodshomedesign.com/transfer-photo-wood-video-tutorial/#comments Tue, 04 Mar 2014 02:07:02 +0000 http://goodshomedesign.com/?p=15128 diy-photo-to-wood-transfer-fb

Many decorations are expensive and not that stylish to being worth your attention. With the tricks featured in this tutorial, you can make your own custom piece of decoration. Read the following and learn how to transfer a photo to wood and actually make a nice `painting` to place in your living room. Here is what you’ll need:

• a picture printed on a regular piece of paper;
• a block of wood (smooth, sanded wood is recommended);
• gel medium;
• Mod Podge;

You begin with covering the piece of wood with the gel medium and place the paper with the picture facing down. With your hand, smooth out the entire surface of the paper, getting rid of the bubbles in the process. Now, leave to dry overnight. The next day, get a slightly wet cloth and soak the paper with it. Make sure there aren’t any spots left un-soaked. You will notice then how easily the paper comes off, leaving the picture underneath imprinted on the piece of wood. Continue to rub with your fingers until it all comes off. Take the cloth and clean any residue of paper off the wood. Finally, cover the entire picture with some Mod Podge and let to dry for a bit. You’re done!
