How To Make an Emergency Candle https://goodshomedesign.com/how-to-make-an-emergency-candle/ https://goodshomedesign.com/how-to-make-an-emergency-candle/#respond Wed, 25 Feb 2015 13:04:47 +0000 http://goodshomedesign.com/?p=25610 Emergency-Candle

If science projects were your favorite activity during your high school years, you are going to love this DIY idea. In case you live in an area with frequent electricity problems, this project will prove very useful. It is also a great idea to keep in mind if you go camping and don’t have a flash light. So, when you are in need of emergency lighting you can create it out of a tuna can; just make sure the tuna sits in oil. The oil from the can will be the power of your candle and you can still consume the tuna after you put out the light. Simply create a small hole in the top of the can, add a wick and light it. As you can see it is very simple to make a useful emergency object out of something you already have in your home and you can find surprisingly new uses to kitchen goods.

DIY Wine Glass Centerpiece https://goodshomedesign.com/diy-wine-glass-centerpiece/ https://goodshomedesign.com/diy-wine-glass-centerpiece/#comments Sun, 20 Oct 2013 22:00:06 +0000 http://goodshomedesign.com/?p=12596 DIY-wine-glass-centrepiece

Here is a great and elegant DIY idea that will help you set the mood in case you are planning a romantic dinner. It is a great centerpiece made out of wine glasses. If you like the pictures below, all you need to do is take some wine glasses, flowers and candles and make the arrangement yourself. Turn the wine glasses upside down and place a flower under them. You can place as many wine glasses on the table as you like, but we think a maximum number of 4 or 5 should be enough. Then just put a candle on the top of each wine glass and that is all. It creates a magical atmosphere. We have one tip for you regarding the flowers: in order to keep them fresh as long as possible, place them in the glasses at the last step of this project.

DIY Halloween Felt Rose Wreath https://goodshomedesign.com/diy-halloween-felt-rose-wreath/ https://goodshomedesign.com/diy-halloween-felt-rose-wreath/#comments Wed, 16 Oct 2013 21:42:36 +0000 http://goodshomedesign.com/?p=12515 felt-roses

We found another great DIY idea for Halloween that we want to share with you. It is a nice holiday decoration for your door that will make all the Trick-or-Treaters jealous. This project is also an inexpensive one, so after spending some money on this year’s Halloween party you won’t need to worry that the decoration will be expensive too as there are plenty of great DIY ideas out there. You will need: a wreath form (here an 18”x18” form was used) and you two yards of orange felt (72” wide). Take a CD and a pen and put the CD in the middle of the piece of felt. Trace around the CD with the pen and then cut out the shape with a scissor. After that start cutting the felt from the outside to the inside until you get a spiral, just like in the picture. Make the spiral as wide as you want, the wider it will be the smaller piece of flower you’ll get. Now start rolling the flower until you reach the end of the spiral and fix it with glue. The next step is to make more flowers so they’ll cover the wreath form and then glue them to the form. You can buy a piece of black ribbon and tie it on the top part of the wreath form. You can also sew a plastic skeleton on the center of the form to make it spookier.
Now all you have to do is tie a piece of wire to the back of the wreath and hang your awesome Halloween decoration on the door.

Cool DIY Idea: Painting out of River Pebbles https://goodshomedesign.com/cool-diy-idea-painting-river-pebbles/ https://goodshomedesign.com/cool-diy-idea-painting-river-pebbles/#comments Sat, 31 Aug 2013 16:11:50 +0000 http://goodshomedesign.com/?p=11416 painting-out-of-river-pebbles

We are going to show you today how to make yourself a painting out of river pebbles. It is a cool DIY idea which is pretty simple to be put into practice. You need the following materials:
– Canvas stretched on a frame
– Wood board
Decorative golden spray
– Flat brush
– silicone
– Stones of various shapes
– Black acrylic paint

You can do one painting, but for highly decorative effect, our recommendation is to design more and place them one next to the other.
You can find materials, such as sand and gravel from the river, even in the place you go on holiday this summer. But if you’re anxious to get to work, you can buy decorative pebbles from decoration stores. The stones are glued on a wooden board or other substrate made of a hard material that does not break down under their weight. When painting the canvas, choose the background color so to harmonize with the rest of the arrangement.
First of all, for symmetry, use wooden boards of similar dimensions. Paint them black, then let them dry. Do not forget to apply undiluted paint to get a deep black color.
Secondly, draw some auxiliary lines with pencils – this will guide you when it comes to arranging the stones. Glue the pebbles one by one, with transparent silicone and fill the spaces between them with pebbles or sand.
In order to get a glamorous effect, use a golden spray for gems. After drying the entire model, it will stick nicely on the canvas. Do not forget to use silicone adhesive, because the pebbles are heavy.
And that’s all. At the end you’ll have a great and unique painting entirely made out of pebbles.

Beautiful Rug From Old T-Shirts https://goodshomedesign.com/beautiful-rug-t-shirts/ https://goodshomedesign.com/beautiful-rug-t-shirts/#comments Sun, 25 Aug 2013 12:49:32 +0000 http://goodshomedesign.com/?p=11247 1238953_710572545635890_1174354972_n

In this tutorial, you can learn how to make a really cool rug, like the one pictured, from your old T-shirts! This rug costs no money because you can reuse some old T-shirts that you don’t use anymore . This project is a great way to put all of those colorful junior high track/soccer/rugby/quidditch shirts in use if you don’t want to donate them.

Here’s what you’ll need:
– 5-10 old t-shirts, depending on how big you want this rug (I used 5.5 for a small bedside rug)
– a pair of scissors
– needle and thread
– sewing machine (optional)

DIY: Unique Lamp by Using Soda Can Tabs https://goodshomedesign.com/diy-unique-lamp-soda-tabs/ https://goodshomedesign.com/diy-unique-lamp-soda-tabs/#comments Fri, 23 Aug 2013 23:08:08 +0000 http://goodshomedesign.com/?p=11199 soda-can-tabs-home-design

Making an impressive lamp shade is surely a unique task. Patience as well as a keen eye for details is definitely in the job description requirements for an ideal candidate. If you think you’re up to the challenge, we will assist you through the entire process. Read the full tutorial accompanied with photos so you are sure you are on the right track. Before you actually start the DIY work for a beautiful pop top lamp shade, you will need the following brief list of materials:

• soda can tabs;
• bottom lamp shade hoop;
• top lamp shade hoop;
• light bulb;

First, remove the tabs from your recycled cans. You might want to do this overtime, so you won’t spend an entire afternoon just taking them off the cans. Also, be aware that in order to make a colorful shaded lamp like the one featured in the pictures, you will need cans that have factory-anodized color pull tabs, because the final result doesn’t include a paint job.
