Massachusetts resident Paul Riley’s recent $4 million lottery win has taken an altruistic turn as he vows to contribute a portion of his winnings to animal welfare. Riley, who purchased the winning ticket at Summit Variety in Peabody, plans to make a meaningful donation to the Animal Rescue League. Motivated by his loyal canine companion, Raven, Riley is passionate about supporting organizations that provide vital services such as veterinary care, adoption, and field services to animals in need. Opting for a one-time payment of $2,600,000 (before taxes), Riley’s decision reflects a heartfelt commitment to giving back to the four-legged friends who hold a special place in his heart.

While many lottery winners might indulge in personal luxuries, Riley’s focus on charitable giving is a refreshing departure from the norm. His generous gesture not only supports a cause close to his heart but also exemplifies the positive impact that windfalls can have on communities and organizations in need. In addition to his donation, Riley plans to use the remaining funds to purchase a new car for his wife, demonstrating a balance between personal fulfilment and philanthropy. Massachusetts State Lottery highlights this heart-warming story, capturing the essence of Riley’s win with the caption, “$4 MILLION winner pictured with his VIP, very important puppy, Raven. He plans on buying his wife a car and donating to the Animal Rescue League!” Moreover, the store that sold the winning ticket will receive a $40,000 bonus, further spreading the ripple effect of goodwill in the community.

Seatbelt-Inspired Walking Aid Ensures Comfortable Strolls with Your Elderly Furry Friends https://goodshomedesign.com/seatbelt-inspired-walking-aid-ensures-comfortable-strolls-elderly-furry-friends/ https://goodshomedesign.com/seatbelt-inspired-walking-aid-ensures-comfortable-strolls-elderly-furry-friends/#respond Wed, 24 Jan 2024 22:00:51 +0000 https://goodshomedesign.com/?p=63462

Steady, the seatbelt-inspired walking aid for elderly dogs, is a remarkable innovation designed to enhance the quality of life for furry companions facing mobility challenges. Conceived by the talented team of Jungmin Park, Chaewon Lee, and Seungha Baek, the device is rooted in a thoughtful understanding of the unique health issues encountered by senior dogs during their strolls. The seatbelt-inspired design provides vertical support, assisting dogs with arthritis, disc problems, and other walking-related health concerns. The inclusion of a sensor for measuring walking data and analysis results further distinguishes Steady as a cutting-edge solution for the care of elderly dogs. In collaboration with the veterinary department of Zurich University, the designers prioritized the comfort, freedom of movement, and adaptability of Steady to different terrains. Mimicking the structure of a seat belt, the device offers a flexible range of motion without relying on electricity.

The straps support the dog’s belly from behind, allowing for unhindered walking, and the length adjustment is straightforward, accommodating dogs of various sizes. Steady seamlessly integrates with joint-protective clothing, acting as a harness, and its strap part stretches and reduces like a seat belt, ensuring a secure and comfortable fit for both the dog and the handler. Additionally, the device’s practical features, such as the ability to stand securely and a rotating supporting structure for convenient storage, make Steady a reliable and user-friendly companion for both elderly dogs and their owners. The accompanying Steady app enhances the overall experience by providing insightful data on the dog’s walking patterns, enabling owners to identify potential issues and ensure the well-being of their beloved pets.

Set it up in your living room as a fun conversation starter, or maybe even as a way to get kids interested in the cerebral pastime. (And for traveling or tucking it away, know the board folds in half.) Either way, it may be a way to finally find out which pet reigns supreme. This is available in the link below…

Man Built Custom Kayak So He Could Take His Dogs On Adventures https://goodshomedesign.com/man-builds-custom-kayak-to-take-adopted-dogs-on-aquatic-adventures/ https://goodshomedesign.com/man-builds-custom-kayak-to-take-adopted-dogs-on-aquatic-adventures/#respond Fri, 02 Oct 2020 17:21:31 +0000 http://goodshomedesign.com/?p=51968

When you have a 4-legged best friend, you want to experience every journey through life together with them. They say dogs are a man’s best friend, and you can tell this is true after reading this next story.

David Bahnson, who is a retired orthopedic surgeon from Vermont, loves to go kayaking. His most precious companion in life is Susie, a beautiful golden retriever that loves his human just as much as David lover her.
One day when he went kayaking, Susie decided to jump in and join him, but it wasn’t very safe for her to tag along. That’s when David decided to go kayaking alone so Susie can have her very own place in the rear baggage opening. But David felt that it still lacked some safety measures, so he built a removable coaming that can keep Susie dry.
When he and his wife got their second dog, Ginger, the custom kayak needed a new addition, so he carved another whole.
Since then, they have been unseparated, and David has his kayaking buddies along with him on every adventure.

“Our dogs have always loved to travel with us in cars, in my airplane, in boats. Building a way for them to kayak with us just seemed like a logical choice, and the boats are fun to build anyway.”

“Once I taught one of my golden retrievers how to windsurf with me, and she was very good at staying on the board and really seemed to enjoy it. At one point she even swam several hundred feet off shore when I had gone windsurfing without her.”

Sadly, both of the dogs pictured with Bahnson have since passed away after lives filled with adventure. However the tradition continues with the family’s newest pets.

“My wife and her friends still use the kayaks and she takes our newest golden, Piper, along with her,” he told HuffPost UK.
