There is an amazing elephant sanctuary in Florida that will become the home of 35 rescued circus elephants. The 35 Asian pachyderms have been rescued from the Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus and will start their new lives in Florida, having a 2500-acre reserve at their disposal.
The habitat is called The White Oak Conservation Refuge and it is located in Yulee, a beautiful area covered in wetlands and forests. The herd of 35 rescue elephants is considered to be the largest Asian elephant herd in the Western hemisphere. Since the elephants have spent their lives in captivity, they won’t survive in the wild, so they had to be moved to a sanctuary where they have a safe space guarded by caretakers. It is not an ideal situation, but it is still the closest thing for them to live a carefree life, just like other wild elephants.
The 35 Asian pachyderms have spent a short period getting accustomed to their new habitat and living arrangements, as well as to the other herds living in the refuge, but are now fully integrated into the everyday life of the sanctuary.

While Humans are Social Distancing, Elephants are Stealing Their Wine and Partying https://goodshomedesign.com/while-humans-are-social-distancing-elephants-are-stealing-their-wine-and-partying/ https://goodshomedesign.com/while-humans-are-social-distancing-elephants-are-stealing-their-wine-and-partying/#comments Sat, 21 Mar 2020 23:52:23 +0000 http://goodshomedesign.com/?p=49702

Half of the world is in lockdown, and the other half in self-isolation so there has been a lot of news about animals taking back the cities and villages.
This news about elephants, that broke into Chinese wine vats might be the cutest of them all. It seems that a group of hungry, but also curious elephants invaded a tea garden in China in search of food but found something more that they wished for.
They stumbled upon a grain alcohol storage unit and drank 30 liters of wine made from corn and the results were just as one would expect.

The photos of the drunk elephants taking a nap and chilling have gone viral on social media.
According to a conservationist named Parveen Kaswan, elephants do not dislike alcohol and on many occasions, it was observed that they even return to a place where they previously found alcohol. Who would have thought that elephants have such peculiar tastes?

“Many elephants are fond of alcohol and seek it out – and return to places where they found it before,” conservationist Parveen Kaswan wrote on Twitter.

“In tribal belts people hide country-made alcohol but somehow elephants find it,” he wrote.

“They mark the houses also where they found that last time. If they see drunk people they get irritated also, since it was not shared with them.”
