Studio Sozai Center, in collaboration with KOMORU Corporation and M&T, has innovatively addressed the environmental challenge posed by discarded apple waste in Aomori Prefecture, Japan, one of the country’s primary apple-producing regions. The solution, known as Adam Sheet, is a translucent and washable fabric made entirely from 100 percent recycled apple pomace. This sustainable material retains the natural reddish-brown hue of the fruit, showcasing Studio Sozai Center’s commitment to preserving the essence of the source material. The fabrication process involves collecting apple pomace from local farmers, transforming it into a fine powder, and then developing it into a washable material without the use of artificial coloring. The resulting Adam Sheet exhibits water and scratch resistance, making it suitable for a range of applications, from apparel to indoor furniture.

Studio Sozai Center has already demonstrated the versatility of Adam Sheet by creating a card case and crossbody pouch, both available for purchase. The products not only showcase the translucent and organic nature of the recycled apple waste material but also offer practical utility. The card case, with front and back pockets, accommodates up to four cards while subtly revealing them through the translucent fabric. Similarly, the crossbody pouch, designed for travel convenience, can hold smartphones, cards, and a passport. As part of responsible ownership, users are advised to avoid contact with certain substances, such as oil, perfume, and cosmetics, to maintain the integrity of the material. Looking ahead, Studio Sozai Center plans to expand its range of Adam Sheet products, emphasizing their dedication to ongoing contributions to the regional apple waste problem through sustainable and innovative solutions.

DIY Fabric Coil Bowl https://goodshomedesign.com/diy-fabric-coil-bowl/ https://goodshomedesign.com/diy-fabric-coil-bowl/#comments Fri, 18 Apr 2014 18:04:18 +0000 http://goodshomedesign.com/?p=16388 DIY-Fabric-Coil-Bowl

Working with fabric is a job as old as modern nations. Some cities from the past thrived on only this type of industry. Some countries have grown from manufacturing clothes and other type of fabric-related products. Now, the DIY movement and trend has brought this skill to every home. Making a lovely bowl out of fabric isn’t that complicated if you have the necessary instructions. But first, here is what materials you will need:

• about 10 meters of 14 by 8cm neon orange cord;
• some long strips of grey fabric or yarn;
• a pair of scissors;
• a large (yarn) needle;

Making a useful bowl out of some pieces of fabric is not only a skill but a type of artwork. The start is a bit hard, but if you get the hang of it, you will have a great final product. So, overlap the ends of the orange and gray strings and wrap the first one around about 5 times. It will be hard to not get tangled in them, so be careful! Now, make a loop by folding the end of the grey string on itself. The center hole should be as big as a needle (it will get bigger while you move forward with your project). Tie a knot around the base of your first loop, with the orange cord. Then push it through the loop towards you but now all the way; a small loop is necessary for you to pass the needle through it, just as you would in a blanket stitch. In order to complete the starting tail you will need to repeat the previous step all the way around your first loop. While you progress onward, the stitches don’t have to be that tight and close to each other. Check the photos to see if you’re on the right track. Read patiently through the other steps and you will end up with a nice bowl.  Also, a full tutorial you can find in the link below. Good luck!

DIY Easy Mug Cosy https://goodshomedesign.com/diy-easy-mug-cosy/ https://goodshomedesign.com/diy-easy-mug-cosy/#respond Sun, 20 Oct 2013 18:05:14 +0000 http://goodshomedesign.com/?p=12592 mug-cosy

Here’s a nice tutorial of how to make a custom-sized cosy for your mug. It is ideal for a cold winter evening when you are drinking tea and want something besides the mug to keep your tea warm. It is also a great gift idea, so feel free to try and make it, it’s not that hard. You will need a mug, a piece of paper and a pencil. Take the mug and roll it on its side starting from right to left and as the mug rolls draw its path with a pencil on the paper. Then do the same thing and draw the bottom part of the mug onto the paper just like in the picture. Now all you have to do is to cut out the shape you created from the paper. Take a piece of fabric, out of which you will make the cozy and pin the cut out shape to it. It will be much easier this way as you can cut out the shape from the material much faster. Start cutting out the shape from the material. When you are ready cut another shape (you can use the same material or another one). Then sew the two parts together, making your cozy fluffier this way and sew two little buttons on one side and two elastic loops on the other. Now all you need to do is place the cozy on your mug, button it up and enjoy your cup of tea.

How To Make Your Own Stencil Pillow https://goodshomedesign.com/stencil-pillow/ https://goodshomedesign.com/stencil-pillow/#respond Sun, 20 Oct 2013 00:06:20 +0000 http://goodshomedesign.com/?p=12587 Stencil-Pillows

If you have some leftover fabric at home from a previous art project then we have a great tip for you. You will need some fabric markers and a stencil to decorate this piece of fabric and then you can create something cute out of it, such as a pillow. But you can also decorate your towels, or the pillow covers you already bought from the deco shop.
So just take the item you want to stencil on, place it on a cardboard and select the text you want to paint on the fabric. As you can see in the picture, for this project the creators used a letter stencil. Just pick out the letters for the quote and draw them on the fabric with a pencil. This is great as you can erase the pencil if you mess something up. After that you will take your fabric marker, paint over on the outline of each letter and fill them with the marker. Just follow the instructions on the package of the marker, as some need to be ironed on afterwards, to fix the paint on the fabric. Lovely project.
