Plants with Red Flowers Perfect for the Cold Season https://goodshomedesign.com/plants-red-flowers-perfect-cold-season/ https://goodshomedesign.com/plants-red-flowers-perfect-cold-season/#respond Mon, 06 Nov 2023 15:32:53 +0000 https://goodshomedesign.com/?p=60906

During the cold season, nature graces us with the vibrant spectacle of plants adorned with striking red flowers, adding a touch of warmth to the chilly surroundings. One such marvel is the Anthurium, a tropical plant known for its glossy, heart-shaped leaves and unique red spathes that resemble flowers. Despite the cold weather, Anthuriums can thrive indoors if provided with proper care, making them a popular choice for winter blooms. Another enchanting option for the colder months is the Cyclamen, a perennial plant that showcases delicate, upswept red or pink petals. These lovely flowers are a sight to behold, especially when contrasted against the backdrop of frosty landscapes. Cyclamens are known for their resilience in cooler temperatures, making them a delightful addition to winter gardens and indoor spaces.

In addition to Anthurium and Cyclamen, the Ixora plant stands out with its clusters of small, vibrant red flowers. Native to Asia, Ixora plants are well-suited for the cold season, thriving in slightly cooler temperatures while adding a pop of color to gardens and landscapes. Their dense, glossy foliage and profuse blossoms make them a favorite among gardeners seeking winter blooms. Another captivating choice is the Euphorbia plant, specifically varieties like Euphorbia pulcherrima, commonly known as poinsettias. These plants are synonymous with the holiday season, featuring brilliant red bracts that surround their flowers. Poinsettias are not only visually appealing but also surprisingly resilient, making them perfect for brightening up indoor spaces during the winter chill. Together, these red-flowered wonders bring a sense of vitality and cheerfulness to the cold season, reminding us of the beauty that nature continues to offer, even during winter.

Transform An Old Log Into A DIY Backyard Planter https://goodshomedesign.com/transform-an-old-log-into-a-diy-backyard-planter/ https://goodshomedesign.com/transform-an-old-log-into-a-diy-backyard-planter/#respond Sun, 12 Apr 2020 20:49:13 +0000 http://goodshomedesign.com/?p=50094

This is gorgeous!!! – LOG FLOWER PLANTER

Summer is just around the corner, which means that you can start planning your garden’s new look for this season. If you want to keep things on a budget, a DIY project is always a good idea and luckily there are plenty of them out there. You can start with a homemade planter that will give your garden a fresh new vibe and a rustic feel.
The planter you are going to make will be placed inside a log, so you will need to find a log that can fit into a corner of your garden and start working on it.
The best log to make the planter is white pine as it has a softer structure it can be carved out more easily than other types of wood. The next step will be to buy or borrow a chainsaw, as you are going to cut lines both horizontally and diagonally into the wood.
The carving out part will be done with the help of a screwdriver and a hammer and once the middle of the log is hollow, you can start planting. Just use soil, sand, and fertilizer and the seeds of your choice to plant your favorite flowers.
The video tutorial will be very helpful in guiding you through each step, just make sure that you’re careful and don’t cut yourself.

How to Make an Egg Carton Flower https://goodshomedesign.com/egg-carton-flower/ https://goodshomedesign.com/egg-carton-flower/#respond Tue, 04 Mar 2014 02:16:21 +0000 http://goodshomedesign.com/?p=15133 diy-egg-carton-flowers

Many say nature is hard to copy. But DIY enthusiasts prove this statement to be wrong, with every passing day. Here is a bold example of how to make an impressive bouquet of daffodils out of a simple egg carton. For this, you will need:

  • a simple egg carton;
  • a pair of scissors;
  • some glue;
  • a pencil;
  • yellow and orange paint and brush;

The steps required for transforming an empty and plain egg carton into a beautiful daffodil are quite simple, but not simplistic. The first thing to do is cutting `petals` out of the carton. This step will probably consume 2 or 3 egg-slots. Next, glue them on a small round piece of carton. The intricate part will involve cutting half of a slot, just like in the picture and gluing it with another piece exactly like it. The result should be a nice piece of bulb. Additionally, carve out some strips from the carton which should act like the stems.

Now is the proper time to paint all of the pieces of your daffodil. Because the final step is assembling (gluing) the bulb onto the flower and the stems in the bulb.  Finish by attaching the bouquet of DIY flowers on a piece of canvas. You end up with a `natural` painting which can improve your home design in a way that only mimicking Mother Nature can.

DIY Flower Ball Bouquet https://goodshomedesign.com/diy-flower-ball-bouquet/ https://goodshomedesign.com/diy-flower-ball-bouquet/#comments Sun, 08 Sep 2013 17:03:22 +0000 http://goodshomedesign.com/?p=11704 DI-Simple-Flower-Ball-Bouquet-home-design-1

This is a great DIY project that could easily be adapted to suit any season or decor just by switching out the flowers. You’ll need: candlestick (here), styrofoam ball (here), silk flowers, craft glue of your choice and ribbon.

Steps:

1. attach your styrofoam ball to the candlestick. you could use hot glue or epoxy…
2. pull the flower heads off your sprig, leaving the bottom stem attached. (see photo.) squeeze some glue on the stem. then, starting at the base of your ball, shove the stem of your flower firmly into the foam.
3. continue this process, placing the flowers in rows as you move up the ball.
4. once your ball is completely covered, tie a ribbon around your candlestick.

Creative and Colorful Balloon Bud Vases https://goodshomedesign.com/creative-colorful-balloon-bud-vases/ https://goodshomedesign.com/creative-colorful-balloon-bud-vases/#comments Fri, 12 Jul 2013 19:18:52 +0000 http://goodshomedesign.com/?p=10033 Balloon-Bud-Vases

For this weekend DIY Basic, we’ll show you an easy way to create a simple, colorful bud vase using a balloon, scissors, and a glass!

Materials:

  • – balloons
  • – shot glasses, votive holders, small glasses
  • – scissors
  • – flowers!

First, blow up your balloon and pull it to stretch it out. Let it deflate and cut off about 1 inch of the end of the balloon (the end that you would tie). Stretch the remaining balloon over your glass and keep pulling it over. Get the bottom of the balloon all the way over the top, while that end you cut, turns into a perfect opening for a flower or two.
