Who knew that wall art can be achieved without painting a single line on the structure itself? It sounds counter-intuitive, but the truth is you are able to have a great decor or pattern on a wall of your room without drawing a single line on it. And there’s no magic involved! The secret is the lightbulb. Yes, the lightbulb! This project is so simple that even your kids can do it almost from start to finish and all you need is a lightbulb (preferably a white one) and a sharpie marker. Gather some inspiration, take the marker and begin drawing on the lightbulb. Be careful to not smudge what you’ve drawn so it’s better you work a section at a time. Plants, animals, symbols – anything that will make you smile works great! Screw the lightbulb back in and once you turn the lights on, your walls are `painted`. Awesome!

Sculptural Paper Orb Lights – DIY https://goodshomedesign.com/sculptural-paper-orb-lights-diy/ https://goodshomedesign.com/sculptural-paper-orb-lights-diy/#respond Wed, 10 Sep 2014 15:34:50 +0000 http://goodshomedesign.com/?p=20153 sculptural-paper-orb-lights

Do you know those beautiful paper ornaments and lights you can buy from decoration stores? They look so nice when hanged all around your room or in your garden. So why spend money when you can make paper lights yourself? To make a paper orb light as those in the pictures, you will need: 120 white paper cupcake liners, 120 stripes petite fours paper, 20″ paper lantern (white), glue gun, one cord for lighting. Build the lantern and use a bowl to help you in the process. Glue the cupcake liners together as shown in the pictures and also glue the striped paper inside of each cupcake liner. Place a light bulb inside the lantern and attach the light to the ceiling using the cord. This is a really nice idea to try if you are having a garden party and need lots of lights to build a cozy atmosphere, or simply decorate your room with such a beautiful paper sculpture.

Materials:

  • 100–125 white standard-sized paper cupcake liners
  • 100–125 vertically striped petit fours papers
  • (1) 18–20″ white paper lantern hot glue gun
  • 1 Hemma Cord (for lighting)

DIY Plastic Spoon Lamp https://goodshomedesign.com/diy-plastic-spoon-lamp/ https://goodshomedesign.com/diy-plastic-spoon-lamp/#comments Sat, 30 Aug 2014 19:08:05 +0000 http://goodshomedesign.com/?p=19738 plastic-spoon-lamp-8

Lamps that have an unusual design can really spice up things in your home. There are lots of catalogs with different kinds of lamps, so you could browse the internet for weeks in search of a unique lamp. However the downside can be that custom made laps are usually very expensive and not everyone can afford having such a piece of jewelry in their home. But don’t be sad, as you can find lots of great tutorials about how to make your home, beautiful lamp. This next one is simple to make as you’ll only need lots of plastic spoons, one large water bottle (empty), a cutter, hot glue gun, one light bulb and wires. Cut the bottom of the bottle and the handles of each plastic spoon. Then start gluing the spoons on the bottle, as shown in the pictures. When you get to the top, create a collar out of spoons. Attach the cable to the light bulb and insert in inside the bottle, then cover the wire using the spoon-collar. You can always paint the spoons with acrylic paint, but white lamps are elegant and can be easily integrated with the rest of the decor.

DIY Light Bulb Planter https://goodshomedesign.com/diy-light-bulb-planter/ https://goodshomedesign.com/diy-light-bulb-planter/#respond Mon, 17 Mar 2014 23:46:54 +0000 http://goodshomedesign.com/?p=15446 DIY-light-bulb-planter

Light bulbs and gardening usually don’t go together in people’s minds. But they can! And the result is more than often quite impressing to any garden design. You can easily convert an unused light bulb into a great planter, either for your outdoor plants or for indoor flowers that improve the decor of your office desk. To make this simple DIY project, here is what you need to have and do:

• light bulb;
• a pair of gloves;
• safety goggles;
• a cutter;
• a screwdriver;
• pliers;
• soil;
• small pot;

Take the cutter and use it on the bottom of the light bulb, peeling off the light color material. Remove it completely with the help of some pliers. Next, break the insulation glass inside the bulb. It doesn’t need a large amount of pressure. Just make sure you are careful with the pieces which will come out the light bulb. Now, there is another layer of glass which goes right to the filament.

Repeat the step from before, applying a little bit more pressure. Remember you shouldn’t squeeze the bulb in your hand too much. Use a pencil instead of a screwdriver if the glass doesn’t seem to shatter very lightly. Stick it in there and wiggle it back and forth until you get the desired result. Then take the pliers and remove all of the contents from within. You might want to wash it a bit to be sure it’s all glass-free on the inside.

The rest is very simple. Fill the bulb with soil and place a small plant in it. You might find a pot of the same size like the bulb. Or you can put it on another DIY planter. Find what solution suits your home and lifestyle.

Making unique designs, especially for the holidays, is a real challenge that unfortunately most of us don’t even try to participate in, in order to win it. Trees, ornaments, garlands, they all are highly used mediums for peoples’ creativity, bringing the world a bunch of great examples of DIY craftsmanship. But you can mix new ideas with forgotten mediums. Like these Snowflake Glitter Christmas Light Bulbs. Find inspiration in the process of making this with only:

• some light bulbs;
• Mod Podge;
• paint brush;
• blue glitter;
• snowflake stickers;
• waxed paper;

Take only a part the bulbs and work with one at a time. Paint with Mod Podge and then stick some blue glitter all over; you can do this with a spoon, like in the images. Set your holiday bulb on some wax paper on the table, in order for it to dry nicely. Repeat the process for each remaining in your first bunch.

DIY Light Bulb Snowman https://goodshomedesign.com/diy-light-bulb-snowman/ https://goodshomedesign.com/diy-light-bulb-snowman/#comments Sun, 17 Nov 2013 20:42:37 +0000 http://goodshomedesign.com/?p=13371 DIY-Light-Bulb-Snowman

A snowman can be hard to make, mainly if you don’t have snow or an ability to work in freezing temperatures. There is a solution to put into practice if your situation doesn’t meet the above mentioned requirements. Light bulb snowman is something you need to try and make, especially if you want a nicely decorated holiday.

light bulb;
• alcohol;
white acrylic paint;
ribbon;
• sock;
• buttons;
toothpicks;
glue;
• scissors;
marker;

The process is easy and you need to begin with rubbing alcohol on the light bulb. This will make the white paint stick to it much better. Let it dry. Apply another coat of paint, if you like. Cut the sock in a manner you can manufacture a hat for your little snowman. You attach the winter accessory to the top via a toothpick inserted into the muff, and covered with glue so the hat doesn’t fall off. Use the same glue on the belly of the snowman, where you place a couple of toothpick hands and nose, some buttons and a mitt or scarf. Draw eyes on your snowman and use the ribbon to knot a hanger. There you have it: your own little light bulb snowman.
