In the Northern Hemisphere, June ushers in longer days and warmer nights, accompanied by an exciting prospect for aurora enthusiasts. Following an extraordinary display of the Northern Lights in May, fueled by a massive sunspot labeled AR3664, the likelihood of witnessing another awe-inspiring aurora show in the coming weeks is high. AR3664, which is more than 15 times wider than Earth, was responsible for at least five significant solar storms. These storms sent charged particles crashing into Earth’s magnetosphere, resulting in spectacular light displays that were visible at unusually low latitudes. As these solar storms persist, Earth is expected to encounter more such phenomena, offering another opportunity to marvel at these beautiful lights.

What enhanced the visibility of even faint auroras in May was the absence of moonlight, thanks to the new moon, which minimized light interference similar to the effects of light pollution. This favorable condition is set to repeat with the next new moon on June 6, coinciding with the reappearance of AR3664 due to the Sun’s 27-day rotation. As the sunspot approaches the Sun’s center from our perspective, the chances of Earth being hit by solar storms increase, potentially leading to another round of vivid auroras. Solar physicist Ryan French from the National Solar Observatory highlights that this period presents a prime opportunity for aurora viewing. Moreover, with the 11-year solar cycle nearing its peak by summer 2025, more frequent and widespread sightings of the Northern Lights are anticipated, ensuring that this may not be the final opportunity to enjoy these natural light shows below the Arctic Circle. For the best viewing experience, enthusiasts should keep an eye out between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. local time.

Photographer Captures Viral Shot of the Northern Lights Behind an Erupting Volcano https://goodshomedesign.com/northern-lights-behind-an-erupting-volcano/ https://goodshomedesign.com/northern-lights-behind-an-erupting-volcano/#respond Sun, 30 May 2021 00:23:04 +0000 http://goodshomedesign.com/?p=55465

Photographs of the Northern lights are always breathtaking, but there are simply no words to describe this picture taken by Christopher Mathews.
He witnessed an amazing moment, which is probably something to be experienced only once in this lifetime, namely a volcano erupting in Iceland that was accompanied by the aurora borealis. Mathews, who has been living in Iceland for many years, has a passion for landscape photography and his finesse is noticeable in this picture.
The volcano featured in the photograph is the Geldingadalur and Mathews has closely monitored it since 2020, hoping for it to erupt and capture this on camera. In early 2020 when seismic monitoring has reported activity in Reykjavik’s volcanos, the photographer knew that something big is about to happen in the near future. Luckily, the Geldingadalur is located in a remote place and no one was hurt during its eruption in March 2021.
Mathews started looking for the perfect spot for his picture on the 12th of March and found several places, such as the Blue Lagoon and back roads close to the volcano. But the best part of this story is that he managed to take the perfect shot of the moment the volcano erupted on the 24th of March, the date of his birthday.
Who could wish for a better birthday gift than this one?

Magical Photos of Winter in Finland Under the Northern Lights https://goodshomedesign.com/northern-lights-winter-finland/ https://goodshomedesign.com/northern-lights-winter-finland/#comments Mon, 04 Jan 2021 22:41:59 +0000 http://goodshomedesign.com/?p=54236

Tiina Törmänen is a nature photographer based in picturesque Lapland, Finland who simply loves to capture the everchanging sky in the season of the Northern Lights.
Lapland is known for its beautiful fairy-tale-like landscape, so you can only imagine how great the Northern Lights look in such a setup.
Törmänen’s pictures of the Aurora feature pristine snowy sceneries, star-filled skies with lush forests below, and lots of snow covered evergreens. The magical element of each picture is created by the Aurora covering the surroundings in vivid colors and transforming everything into a stunning painting.
Before discovering her passion for photography, Törmänen worked as a chef in Helsinki but returned to her home in Lapland in 2010, where she found natural inspiration for her pictures. After living in the capital, rediscovering her homeland brought sentiments of pure joy to Törmänen, and exploring the wilderness of Lapland opened up a lot of space for experimenting in her work.
Make sure to follow her on Instagram for more amazing pictures, and plan your visit to Lapland to see the beauty of the Aurora up close.

“I think it’s nice to show people this silent beauty,” Törmänen told the Daily Mail. “And to remind people how amazing this planet is, how much there is beauty in life itself.”

Watching the Aurora Borealis should be the one thing everybody writes down on his or her bucket list. This experience can be quite life changing, especially if you are in a state in which you can really observe this phenomenon. Now you can have a vacation just for this. In the Kakksauttanen Resort, you are able to see the Aurora Borealis for 200 days a year. Starting August and up to April, you can book your place in one of the Kelo-Glass igloos.
In order to get unobstructed views of the beautiful sky, the bedroom has a glass roof. A special thermal glass is used so you are comfortably warm even though it’s -40 degrees Fahrenheit outside. Besides the insulation, the special material prevents the glass from freezing. Each igloo can sleep up to 6 and also features a private sauna, fireplace, and kitchenette. Take a virtual tour or watch the video provided to get just a glimpse of what the experience can be.
