Designer Creates Mini Replica of Johannesburg in His Backyard With Recycled Materials https://goodshomedesign.com/designer-creates-mini-replica-of-johannesburg-in-his-backyard-with-recycled-materials/ https://goodshomedesign.com/designer-creates-mini-replica-of-johannesburg-in-his-backyard-with-recycled-materials/#respond Tue, 02 Mar 2021 22:11:07 +0000 http://goodshomedesign.com/?p=54853

Creating outstanding art doesn’t mean you need to have access to the most expensive supplies, as sometimes creativity can overcome the lack of funds.
Mulalo Nego Negondeni is a 26-year-old artist from Mukula Village in Limpopo Province, South Africa who made an amazing replica of Johannesburg in his backyard, keeping everything low budget. The project on which he’d been working for 12 years was named NegoCity, and Negondeni used only recycled materials to make this amazing tiny city.
His inspiration came in 2010 after seeing the FIFA World Cup closing ceremony in South Africa and being impressed by the FNB stadium’s grandeur. His greatest wish was to see the stadium live, but it was too expensive for him to get a ticket for the closing ceremony. That was the moment in which he decided to remake the stadium using mud, in his parents’ backyard, by only knowing its design from magazines and TV.
What started as a child’s game, soon became something larger than ever expected and the tiny mud city grew over the years. The materials used for the building of the structures also improved over time and became more durable, as Negondeni started using cement, wires, plastics, and other fabrics.
Now his replica of Johannesburg stands tall in his backyard and it is a testimony of how creativity and ambition can lead to something truly unique.

Artist Turns Bolts, and Scrap Metal Into Into Beautiful Sculptures https://goodshomedesign.com/scrap-metal-sculptures/ https://goodshomedesign.com/scrap-metal-sculptures/#comments Tue, 20 Oct 2020 22:42:32 +0000 http://goodshomedesign.com/?p=52340

Anything can be turned into art if you’re creative enough. Even scrap metal, such as nuts, and bolts and Brian Mock is the living proof.
He is an Oregon-based artist who makes beautiful sculptures out of recycled materials, especially metal scraps. He starts his work by searching for pieces of scrap material and thinking of ways to reinterpret them into something new and intriguing.

Mock first started creating sculptures in the 1990s when the entire upcycling movement was still in its very early stages, but the breakthrough in his works came after he learned the technique of welding. This gave his works a whole new twist and was the beginning of his life-size sculptures, for which he is known now.

Mock’s works include mostly large human figures or animals, such as dogs and cats, and he uses bolts and nuts to add depth to his sculptures. The most amazing part is that his works have very life-like features and you can feel them almost coming alive by just looking at them. Such a great talent!

The tiny house movement gains more and more ground each year and it evolved from a very basic architectural style to more sophisticated and modern ones. Let’s take this next example, a tiny house created by a specialized company called Perch & Nest. The house is called Roost 36 and is made 100% out of recycled materials and with very close attention to details when it comes to its interior. The house is comprised of 2 bedrooms and a large deck and it can cleverly transform into a large living space thanks to its retractable glass screens. Besides this, the large windows and additional skylights will make this house bathe in sunlight. The interior has a bohemian feel with the concrete counter top in the kitchen, the white walls and the retro-looking floors. It is such a beautiful and pleasant mélange that it will instantly catch the eye and make everyone curios about what this tiny house hides inside.

Roost36 made its public debut as the featured build at the 2017 Tiny House NC Street Festival and went on to gain international recognition for its unique, yet practical design.
