Katerina Marchenko’s artistic prowess shines through her innovative approach to embroidery, where she transforms long, colorful strands of yarn into stunning, larger-than-life portraits. The juxtaposition of the intricate art form against the delicate tulle canvas adds an extra layer of complexity to her works, demanding precision and skill from the artist. The result is a series of human faces brought to life on an impressive scale, defying the conventional expectations of embroidery confined to smaller dimensions. Marchenko’s commitment to transparency in her creative process is evident through the mesmerizing timelapse videos she shares, revealing her hands gracefully weaving the vibrant threads through the tulle, abandoning the traditional needle for a more hands-on technique. This departure contributes to a distinctive linear style, akin to the loose and sketchy quality found in hand-drawn illustrations, with intentionally dangling threads adding an expressive dimension to the final pieces.

Beyond her large-scale portraits, Marchenko diversifies her artistic expression by applying her talents to more traditional embroidery hoops. In these projects, her style becomes more detailed and painterly, capturing subjects ranging from faces and flowers to hands. A common thematic thread in all her works is her fascination with the human body and line art, which unites her diverse creations. For those captivated by Marchenko’s unique embroidery, original pieces are available for purchase through her Etsy store, and enthusiasts can stay updated on her latest creations by following the artist on Instagram.

DIY Dandelion Pom Pom https://goodshomedesign.com/diy-dandelion-pom-pom/ https://goodshomedesign.com/diy-dandelion-pom-pom/#comments Mon, 12 May 2014 21:02:14 +0000 http://goodshomedesign.com/?p=16996 pom-pom-flower-tutorial

Dandelions are one of the signs of summer and joy, as they are brightly colored. Passing through a dandelion meadow can bring back nice memories and can brighten everyone’s day. Unfortunately it’s kind of hard to plant a whole meadow in your garden, but you can always search your crafting box for yellow yarn and create your own dandelions. You will need the following materials:

• yellow yarn;
• green yarn;
• U shaped object;
• some glue;
• a pair of scissors;
• needle;
• thread;
• a stick;

Take the U shaped object and wrap the yellow yarn around it. Pull the yarn through the middle and secure the end with glue. Take a piece of yarn and wrap it around the middle section of the roll and cut it in half. These two will be the top of your dandelions. Take the green yarn, cut pieces of equal length and pull a needle with a thread through the yarn, as shown in the pictures. Repeat this step again, but leave some gap between the pieces of thread. Wrap the green yarn through the top of the dandelion and secure with thread. Carefully cut the edges and apply a bit of glue on them. Take the stick and wrap green yarn around it, secure with glue. The last step is to attach the top of the dandelion to the stick; you can use hot glue if you wish. Make several more dandelions out of yarn and this way you will have your own miniature handmade dandelion meadow.

DIY Fabric Coil Bowl https://goodshomedesign.com/diy-fabric-coil-bowl/ https://goodshomedesign.com/diy-fabric-coil-bowl/#comments Fri, 18 Apr 2014 18:04:18 +0000 http://goodshomedesign.com/?p=16388 DIY-Fabric-Coil-Bowl

Working with fabric is a job as old as modern nations. Some cities from the past thrived on only this type of industry. Some countries have grown from manufacturing clothes and other type of fabric-related products. Now, the DIY movement and trend has brought this skill to every home. Making a lovely bowl out of fabric isn’t that complicated if you have the necessary instructions. But first, here is what materials you will need:

• about 10 meters of 14 by 8cm neon orange cord;
• some long strips of grey fabric or yarn;
• a pair of scissors;
• a large (yarn) needle;

Making a useful bowl out of some pieces of fabric is not only a skill but a type of artwork. The start is a bit hard, but if you get the hang of it, you will have a great final product. So, overlap the ends of the orange and gray strings and wrap the first one around about 5 times. It will be hard to not get tangled in them, so be careful! Now, make a loop by folding the end of the grey string on itself. The center hole should be as big as a needle (it will get bigger while you move forward with your project). Tie a knot around the base of your first loop, with the orange cord. Then push it through the loop towards you but now all the way; a small loop is necessary for you to pass the needle through it, just as you would in a blanket stitch. In order to complete the starting tail you will need to repeat the previous step all the way around your first loop. While you progress onward, the stitches don’t have to be that tight and close to each other. Check the photos to see if you’re on the right track. Read patiently through the other steps and you will end up with a nice bowl.  Also, a full tutorial you can find in the link below. Good luck!
