Seniors Are Buying Tiny Homes to Live Their Golden Years Off the Grid

The off-the-grid living movement is gathering more and more followers, and now elderly people are looking to join it once they retire. Switching to the off-the-grid lifestyle can bring a lot of advantages, the most obvious of them is its cost-efficiency.
Since 2015 the percentage of senior tiny homeowners has grown by 30%, and more people between 51 and 70 years old are considering such a housing option. This means an entirely new market to tiny house designers, and these have started offering personalized options for seniors.

Bette Presley, who is 72 years old, decided to invest in an RV in 2013 as she wanted to have a small house on wheels. The priority for her was the home’s mobility and she is now the proud owner of a 166 square foot house that is powered by solar panels.

Shirley Louiselle is also a senior and proud tiny house owner and she decided to start a business called Next Door Housing, through which she makes tiny houses accessible for the elderly. The customized homes include lower countertops and storage units, but also wheelchair access.
If you are considering investing in a tiny home once you retire, you should also check MEDCottage, which specializes in customizable cabins.

More and more seniors are opting for tiny homes over RVs or assisted living. This model by Tumbleweed Houses was even customized with a hot tub and covered porch.

At 72, Bette Presley designed a 166-square-foot mobile cabin that is equipped with solar panels for off-the-grid living.

Tiny homes are also quite convenient for those who are still working in their later years.

We need senior communities for these along with RV’s for states like Missouri who won’t allow them except for one veteran homeless community.

    Good morning
I am going to be moving on to my son’s land in Brisbane
I am looking for a tiny home to put onto it
    I can’t live in a 6 x 3 and don’t have much money
What is the sort of price for a 9 x 3 home or bigger, I am looking for a very simple pod
    Cheers Sarah
