Would you imagine an exercise ball involved in the making of a pizza oven? With the next DIY project you can even see it in action! The good thing about this particular type of project is that it’s less messy than other similar projects. In fact, the exercise ball is used as mold for the oven dome. Does it look simple to build? If you decide to give it a try, there is a list of materials you should grab. So, make sure you have an exercise ball, perlite, cement, stainless steel needles, Formica, fire bricks, 3 by 5 by 1/2″ cement Backer Board Durarock or Fireboard, pavers, a 4″ by 2′ chimney, plywood, duct tape and plastic wrap. Check out the step by step tutorial offered by William Stark and good luck with your build!

So here are the parts of my build:

1. Top Dome Mold/Cement
2. Bottom Floor Mold/ Cement / Fire Bricks
3. Finish Work / Detail work on Both Pieces
4. Table stand / Pavers to sit on
5. Put the Pieces together…

You”ll need:

Exercise ball
Perlite
Cement

Where did you get the stainless wire

Love it! I made mine from clay, I lived in Georgia. I now live in Louisiana and want to build another one. Mine was much smaller, I never thought about using an exercise ball for a form. Looks like I will be finding one for a new oven. Thanks.

Great project, how can I get a copy of it? I thought it was beautiful and I would like to make one in my backyard. Thank you

Excelente projeto, como posso adquirir uma cópia dele? Achei lindo e gostaria de fazer um no meu quintal. Obrigado

Great design, I will soon be working on my base then I will be following your design. I wonder if using wire mesh over the ball would help in keeping the mix from sliding down.

Very interesting build! Do you have any details written down for first timers? Things like:
    1. Quantity of each ingredient,
    2. Dimensions of the “mouth”,
    3. Overall weight of molded oven. 4. How you measured & made the floor.
    4. Did you line the bottom over or under the oven bricks?
    5. Where is the heat source located & installed?
Thank you for the photos! I’ve been wanting to build one but not certain of the details. I don’t want to break my oven turning it over to design the floor.
