Considering how often the tension bar holding up the shower curtain in my tub kept falling down I definitely wouldn’t trust it as a baby or pet gate.

I’d also be concerned about babies and pets sticking their heads through the “gate” and getting stuck. Seems very unsafe. There’s a reason baby gates are crosshatches.
