My dad built these every year for our annual pig roast at our home. If you are going to do something like this and dig into the earth, dig at an angle (and line with tinfoil or tin) for all the grease to run down (have a grease trap aka massive bowl). otherwise, be prepared for a massive grease fire. i still have his “plans” dating back from the late 70’s
Would you be willing to share those plans, if it is not too much triuble. I will like to build one of these but have no idea on howmto even start and what you said does make lots of sensea oit the grease run down and how to collect it. It will be greatly appreciated

Cinder blocks made from the ash of coal furnace. I haven’t seen any for sale in 40 years. There is no direct heat.I have never had a problem with CEMENT blocks. Well so much for the moron.

Cinder blocks???? That will for sure get someone hurt. When you heat them, they tend to explode. Cudos on the design, but use fire brick if you don’t want hot chunks of rock flying through the air.
