With a bit of baking skills you can create almost any desert you like. For instance this next recipe is a star shaped bread, for which you will be using the basic bread recipe and after that create a star shaped masterpiece. It’s a festive recipe, because of the bread’s unique shape, so it will be perfect for this Easter. You can add any flavor you want in the end. You won’t actually learn how to make the bread from this tutorial you will only learn how to make a start shape out of it. The ingredients of the recipe are:

For the dough:

  • 300 g of flour;
  • 400 g of strong flour;
  • 250 ml of milk;
  • 25 g of baker’s yeast;
  • 100 ml of olive oil;
  • 2 eggs;
  • 1 tsp of sugar;
  • 2 tsp of salt;
  • olive oil;

The rest of the recipe:

  • pizza cutter;
  • milk;
  • yolk;
  • pastry brush;
  • sesame seeds;

Start by kneading the dough you prepared by mixing all the ingredients together, and leaving it to rise for a couple of hours afterward. To make the star shape, split the ball of dough into three gradually bigger quantities. So, you should end up with a piece of small size dough, a medium and a large one. Divide the latter in 5 almost equal portions. Roll them into circles and brush them with olive oil while on a piece of parchment paper. When you completed all of the 5, just stack them one on top of each other. If necessary, use a pizza cutter to make the circle shape even better.

Now, take a knife and mark a small asterisk in the center, like the one in the photo. Turn each piece from the center outward and outside the circle. Do the same for the medium size dough. This circle should fit into the big one. If not, make the necessary adjustments with the pizza cutter. The small piece of dough will go uncut into the center of the medium one. When all of these are stacked, brush your bread with milk and egg yolk. Sprinkle the sesame seeds and put to bake at 400° F for 10 minutes and at 350° F afterward for half an hour.

    I do not see any measurements for the diameter of the large disk of dough or the thickness it should be rolled into. The bread looks wonderful, but being a relative newcomer to fancy baking I do need further instructions

  2. Alice the Baker says:

    Try for a 10″ diameter disc. That’s about what it looks like to me.
