Step 5 – Fill the hole evenly with concrete. Use your hands to press and sculpt the concrete into a leaf shape.
Step 6 – Place a rhubarb leaf vein-side down on the surface of the concrete. Press firmly to make a detailed impression. Lift off the leaf.
Step 7 – Enhance the veins, if you like, by deepening them using a wooden skewer.
Step 8 – Cover the stepping-stone with damp burlap. Keep it covered and damp to help strengthen the concrete while it cures for a week.
Do you need more than one leaf to make a few stones?
I would, but I have a lot of rhubarb. Other large leaves can be used, of course. I would leave the leaves on the concrete too. let them come off naturally, then you wouldn’t have to use burlap to cover and the removal would not mar the natural impression.
Rhubarb “Pie”””” Yummmmmmm
don’t let the leaves stay on if you have a cat or dog as the leaves are poisonous and may get trapped in their paws of which they will lick
