Imagine walking inside a home and seeing a beautiful plank shelf accentuating the decorative items it supports. You would admire it, walk right by and never think it hides a secret drawer. An elegant display of wood veneer dressing up an aluminum structure is perceived as a simple shelf. The interior drawer secretly shelters things you want out of sight. Entitled Clopen Shelf, this 34mm thick panel uses elaborate aluminum elements – encompassed in a sliced veneer shell – to shape a sleek decorative and functional item. Within this already tight space, a 23mm thick drawer is just large enough to store a string of pearls or your passport. Opened with the help of magnetic keys, this elegant decorative shelf/drawer is composed of three elements: aluminum, Japanese Ash and magnets. Imagined by Torafu Architects, the modern shelf surprises with its double function and simple, elegant display of wood.
