Looking for a home suitable for your needs might be long and hard. That’s why we suggest you try a different thing: convert a van! The project featured in the photos and respective link shows how a simple person like yourself managed to transform a rusty van to a cozy home. If the before and after picture inspires you to learn more, read more about the project. The impressive transformation was successfully using nothing but common materials available in shops, so no specialized auto or van shops were visited in this DIY project. The final result provides the comfort of a small-size home, with quite the minimalistic design. The van-home even includes 100W solar panels installed on the roof. Browse the photos to get a glimpse of all the steps of this impressive transformation.
Wonder what the cost was to do this? Breakdown? Where is propane tank hidden? What does water from sink/toilet flow out to?
It cost just over £5500 all in all 🙂
Awesome idea!
nice job! i too made a camper out of a rusty van, complete with solar system. lots of fun!
I bought a van and want to be able to travel. I will take any advice you have.
Nice, but wouldn’t you want to park it so that you have a view the river?
Hahahaa!
Park with the rear to the river and open the door?
How much would it cost to do and run also what is the law upon this?
This is simply amazing! What a beautiful design you have for the interior. After a while, I would forget that I am in an old van. Love this and thank you for sharing!
That is not an old van. That is one of the new tall work vans. You could not have a stand up shower in a old van.
The design is actually very old and basic but it was made in 2003
Props for the DIY aspect… That said, from a usability perspective, is that even comfortable/functional? Maybe it’s the angle of the shot, but it looks to me like there is hardly any space between the sofa and the cabinet/furniture. Looks to be comfy laying down but not sitting up. And what about the cabinet doors….do they open fully?
If it is just the angle and there is actually more room in the aisle, then bravo!
I would also like to know the cost breakdown and what happens to toilet sink and shower water? Thanks!
Here’s a video of me breaking down: http://vandogtraveller.com/van-broke-3-days-3-minute-video/
Thanks for sharing. It’s my van! I’ve lived here for 3 years and travelling all around 🙂
