DIY: No Helium Needed to Fill Balloons

no-helium-needed

I found this creative idea on Mom to 2 Posh Lil Divas, an idea that can be very useful for a party. Is very easy, all you need is baking soda, vinegar, plastic bottle, balloon and a funnel. What to do: use a funnel to pour vinegar into your bottle (need to fill about 1/3 of the bottle). Pour baking soda into your balloon (fill the balloon approx. 1/2 way). Cover the top of the bottle and lift your balloon and let the baking soda fall into the vinegar. Enjoy!

*** Carbon Dioxide gas will inflate the balloons but they do not “fly” like helium inflated balloons as it is not the same kind of gas. *** This project can be useful for kids, to fill balloons also you can buy a small helium tank. This is more for a science project. ***

But … when the result aren’t flying balloons, what is speaking against filling the balloons with … breathing air?

Mine sinks like a rock faster than just a plane one

Is there any dangerous thing in this gas?

With this experiment, if the result aren’t flying balloons, what is the difference between this & using a bicycle pump or breathing air – I wonder!

Um, I looked up ‘home made helium’ and this came up, looked at it and tried it only to find out the don’t float! The fall to the ground faster than a normal balloon filled with normal air.
