Rescue Your Cast Iron from Rust with Vinegar

Rescuing-Cast-Iron

Not everybody owns an oven with a self-cleaning setting, so rusty cookware is left for your gentle (but skillful) hands to deal with. Luckily for you, there is a way for removing the rust and saving your cast iron, all with the natural help of vinegar. The process isn’t too complicate so dealing with rusty dishes in the future will seem like a child’s play. What you have to do is get some water and white vinegar, as well as a piece of abrasive scrubber. The trick is to have a mixture of half water half vinegar and letting the cookware soak in it for up to 6 hours. To make it ready for use once more, make sure you use lard and rub it on the entire surface before storing it for 15 minutes at 275ºF. See? It’s that easy! Spread the secret formula to your friends so you can all no longer throw away the rusty iron cast pans. Check more details on Instructables..

Excellent tip! Best to take proper care of cast iron cookware in the first place to prevent rust from ever developing, but if you’re in the rust zone already, this’ll certainly save a few skillets destined for the landfill!
