A company based in California designed ‘Farm from a box’, a farming toolkit that provides everything you need in order to produce your own organic and off-grid food. The modified shipping containers are equipped with a built-in WiFi, irrigation system, solar panels, weather tracking devices, batteries, secured storage, and some other useful things for farming such as seeds and farming tools. Each unity is able to produce crops for one hectare of land, according to the company.
“Farm from a Box is the ‘Swiss-Army knife’ of sustainable farming,” Brandi DeCarli, Farm from a Box co-founder, stated in September. Besides being suitable for communities around the world, it could also be a food security alternative for regions without reliable access to electricity or water.
