Can you believe that all you need for making everything in your home work is only sunshine and rainwater? This Texas modular house proves it to be a great idea turned into reality. The designs you’re looking at were made by a team of creative students. The goal was to provide with a modular home which is at the same time off-grid. The project of those from NexusHaus team is cleverly projected to function in areas with lots of sunlight and it is thought to be highly necessary especially in drought-prone areas. Besides the slick design of the modules, there are some neat innovations like drinking rainwater reuse and graywater recycling featured in the house project. Browse the images to get a better understanding.
“Although the Department of Energy’s Solar Decathlon competition is focused on renewable energy, one of the teams chosen to build a house for this fall’s event will take resource conservation a step further.
The University of Texas at Austin, partnering with Germany’s Technische Universitat Munchen, will construct a home that is net zero usage for energy as well as water. The team’s NexusHaus, which will be on display during the competition held Oct. 8 to 18 in Irvine, Calif., will be one of the country’s first water-independent dwellings, and its design could have major ramifications for home builders in drought-prone areas and beyond. Its concepts have takeaways for builders across the country as more jurisdictions allow measures such as potable rainwater reuse and graywater recycling.”

I want to know more
Bety godo house
I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE DIFFERENT MODELS AND PRICES AND LOCATIONS AND DOES IT HAVE A WAY FOR PRIVACY ON THOSE BIG WINDOWS? SCREEN? CURTAINS? WALL?
THANK YOU FOR TYPING ALL IN CAPS.
I AM SURE THERE ARE MANY PRIVACY OPTIONS INCLUDED IN THE BUILDING PACKAGES SUCH AS ROLL DOWN SHADES, MIRRORED WINDOWS FOR EXTERIOR, OR YOU CAN SIMPLY BUY A DAMN CURTAIN ROD AND CURTAINS!
(((awesome – all lowercase)))
R, Did it occur to you that, maybe Metha is hard of seeing? Hmmmm?
you don’t have to be sassy! people with vision problems use caps because they are easier to see. it doesn’t necessarily mean shouting!
ALSO A LOT EASIER TO TYPE FOR US OLD GEZZERS
Privacy from what? Roaming cattle? Roadrunners? Deer, antelope???:
Antelope are sketchy AF. First time you catch one peeping in your windows while you shower you’ll understand.
Are these homes available in South Africa and what sort of price would one be looking at. Sounds pretty awesome
Will you be selling these
Hello I would be interrested in this project. I would like to build an eco friendly guest house as well as my own home need ideas and this one sounds fabulous. I live in New Caledonia
Would like to know the cost and locations of these homes
I am very interested how can we get more info including pricing and larger models available?
Really cool. Was wondering if you could do a model with some sort of louvers on the open space so one could crank it open or closed, depending on weather.
I would like to know more about these homes.
Please send more information great concept
Last summer in Central Texas, we had 90 days in a row of high temperatures over 100 degrees, and many of those days low temperatures did not go below 79 or 80 degrees. How would this house stay cool under such conditions?
Swamp cooler
Gets humid an much of Texas except for out west. Does not work with humidity. Also hard on furniture.
It wouldn’t stay cool. In fact, it would be something along the lines of the dogs you see suffering in the Walmart parking lot.
No mention of cooling in summer.
I would like to know more. This is a great idea.
Please send me more info . We are about to build a house in New Zealand and really love this design . We are on a large farm with huge rainful and really not enough sunshine hours so need all the sun to come indoors when we get it .
Is it possible to have shipped to NZ . All info possible and pricing would be hugely appreciated .
Kindest Regards
Rebecca

Ideal please send more info
Did anybody reciev ansver for their questions about this house
Any additional information would be greatly appreciated
Thank you
The problem is the material we use to build these homes, all we know in the States is building homes with saw dust and glue panels called OSB. The better solution is to build concrete based homes. I have a much better solution. Nice design but it is all about what you build them with.
Is anyone going to answer any of the posted questions or provide more information?
More information, please. I am in Georgia, USA.
Hey, everyone asking for information, plans, etc – this is a competition prototype that hasn’t even been completed yet. There *are* no plans, no factories, no shipments. Sheesh!
Please remember that some people who have vision challenges also type in all caps so they can see it. It does not mean they are virtually yelling at you!!!! When in doubt, please be humble and kind!!
Thank you!

I am a 60 year old woman hoping to own a small house off the grid as possible within my last working years, which would be in the next 10 years. I will not have pension. So I must have a sustainable option to survive. This is a perfect answer.
Are there plans for this design? Love this…
Thank you both for the chuckle. I really needed one.
Beautiful. I love seeing the new concepts incorporating sustainability that our up and coming architects have developed. I would love to live in a modern home as beautiful as this with the environmental responsibility that is a must for our future. It’s a good blend. Good work.
WHO CARES the size of TEXT! sheesh
Would this design work in Ohio? The roof seems awfully flat to hold snow.
Would like more details and pricing. What parts of the country are these available.
Why do all these modern fancy technology homes look like boxes? Where’s the style?
I have builders and developers interested in these designs, materials and costs. I am in Melbourne and Canberra, Australia.
Storm cellar shelter? Why is not earth sheltered construction considered to moderate extremes of temperature and protection from hurricanes and tornadoes? One might suppose there is a water cistern underground, so anything else subterranean? The thing looks ripe to be plucked up and tossed about by one of those extremely strong windstorms. Maybe Austin and Germany do not have windstorms?
Some good, tried and true concepts at work in this design, BUT
This is theory, not practice. Irresponsible to state that it “will” run on sunshine and rainwater alone with no field metrics. Run what, how? In what stage of comfort? I’m very pro-low impact housing, but this is a box of unicorns and fairy farts until built and operated.
Fawning over something because you see buzzwords like “solar” and “sustainable” is not very good thinking. It’s like falling in love with an anime character. Build it, live in it in West Texas for a year, and then let’s look at origination costs, footprint, operational efficacy and then compare it to alternatives. In the environment they are positing, gonna be hard to beat the cost and efficiency of earth sheltered homes – but it might make sense in south Florida or the Pacific Northwest.
Interior is a doppelganger of the public camping grounds office/gathering area in Reykjavik, which does work pretty well in that rainy environment. reykjavikcampsite.is/
I would like to know more about these homes and the different designs.
Would like to know more about your housing, living in Australia..

Can you give me more info, pricing, sizes.
I live in South Africa
In South Africa.. do you have an agent here, if so costs etc
Here in Hawai’i with an average annual rainfall of 17 inches, and sunshine pretty much 365 daze a year, a house like this would thrive…
It looks like a lot of people need to work on their reading comprehension. It says in the article that it’s being built for a COMPETITION by two UNIVERSITIES. No one from goodhomesdesign.com who wrote an article is going to contact you about building you a sustainable modular house.
In the article there was mention of an exhibit of this model (or similar) in Irvine, CA in October. Is that October 2019? Or a different year? Where might I see one, get more information? I live near Los Angeles, CA. Thank you.
If you think this would be good for retiring veteran boomers I would be interested.
I like so many others, would like to know about availability, cost, and delivery where they are available. Definitely Interesting and an interested.
Please send the details of house
Hello, whats about snow in the roof, it can be very weightful!
I’m moving from Ga to Tx want an efficient home on my lot
Would like more information as well. Has anyone received any requirement information?
Does anyone here know that everything west of East Texas is prone to droughts?
More information available
All you who are interested in more information need to contact the University of Austin’s School of Architecture department ( soa.utexas.edu/work/nexushaus ).
NexusHaus was their 2015 project, they do a new one every year.
This e-magazine “Goods Home Design” is simply reporting on it, telling you about it. All the information you are going to get from them is printed ABOVE.
I’d like more information about the availability and pricing of these homes please.
Send me more information about the house models please
I would love to know more. Looking to build in Belize.
More info please
More info please price. Delivery options. Thanks
Can I see the home this weekend in Irvine?
Would like to know more about it and cost and is it s
Great concept, but for areas with lots of rainfall, a flat roof is NOT a good idea unless it is slanted.
I went one!
