In many cases a shirt can be more than just a shirt, as you can transform it into something new. For example, you can use an old dad shirt to make a beautiful dress for your little girl in a few minutes. This one is a very simple project and you can make it even if you are a beginner when it comes to sewing. You will need to use a button down dad shirt, a pair of scissors, a girl’s dress to use as a pattern, a pencil and a sewing machine. Place the dress on a shirt, trace an outline and cut it out. Now all you need to do is sew the dress in order to be complete. For this you will be using a sewing machine, but you will find some guidelines for how to sew the dress on the next link. You can cut several shirts and make a whole collection of beautiful dresses for your little girl, so she can wear a different one each day. To make the dresses cuter, you can attach ribbons or colorful buttons to them or even add a large pattern that has been cut out from another fabric, so these dresses will surely stand out.

This struck me as a good way for sewers to take shirts from those rummage sales and make dresses to send to the missions, or Red Cross , any relief agency. Bring your machines to the church and have a dress making ‘Bee’. Or have a meeting ,hand out the shirts and suggestions, come together when done, pack up and send out. ?

never thought of a dress, I’ve used them to reline purses. I also used baby receiving blankets to make robes for my daughter. Nice and cuddly

My Dad died when I was 16. I still have one of his shirts. I cut out a heart and had it sewn into my wedding dress. I think I’m going to try this with the rest of the shirt for my daughter. Thank you!

Go a step further with the remaining dress shirt. Sew the collar closed, sew each of the sides of the arms closed in a ruffle and sew the two arm holes together at the wrist. Sew the open cut out chest areas over in a straight line all around leaving it open to make a sling type baby doll carrier to match the dress. Turn the picture upside down to get a feel for the idea…
