Needless to say you will have to roll your sleeves for this project, but the result is really good. First choose the piece of furniture like a drawer or closet which you are not using anymore and prepare to transform it into something efficient for your rabbits. These are super cute! Just remember rabbits love to chew so keep in mind : non-toxic materials, cedar is poisonous , and other woods with stains or paint might be too.. A little research may save future heart ache.

I totally agree Sandra! They are all far too small! Rabbits need a good amount of floor space to run around in, I personally think that these are just cruel!
#3 looks like it could be functional with the pull out waste disposal, but the rest… you’re gonna have fun cleaning them out after a couple weeks, and the urine will start to warp and separate the particle board stuff.
Cute, but these are way way too small for any rabbit to live in. Rabbits need as much space as a cat or dog ideally, they need to be able to run and jump. As a rabbit owner these cages make me really quite upset. You shouldn’t be keeping your rabbits in a house like this or encouraging anyone else to. Please reconsider and take this post down, or do your research!
Nice idea but way too small. Feel very sorry for some of those rabbits. They need 6ft by 3ft by 2ft high at the very least.
Rabbits in cramped cupboards….. Not ideal, these houses may look nice but they’re not suitable for an animal which needs to run, hop, jump and sit on hind legs and stretch.
Cruel. A rabbit is a living thing, not a toy to look at in one of these tiny doll house like hutches.
They look nice but they are way to small for any rabbit to live in. Rabbits should be able to run and hop and these poor bunnies wouldn’t be able to do any of those things. There movement should not be limited to a few hours in a run each day. They should always have a run attached to the cage (if you choose to keep them in a cage) Big enough for them to exercise and stand up on their back legs, jump etc.
My Benjamin Bunny has a wire cage in my basement. He is not made to stay in it. He has the whole basement to roam in. Everything he should not have was removed and when I go to do the laundry jhe is generally right next to my foot. Adorable.
You people are ridiculous. None of you have any idea whether or not these bunnies are allowed to roam and these are their bedtime boxes. I know some of these are from blogs I’ve read and their rabbits are let out often. Stop being so reactionary.
Well said I have 1 Bunny and my Daughter has 3 they all live in the house with us but at night the sleep in their cages as soon as the morning comes they are free to roam.
Granted most of these DIY hutches are a bit small but I’m sure these pet owners let them out of their homes to roam the house or yard, I myself have a hutch I built but the only time he’s in it is when i go to bed. Maybe you should be sending these comments to the pet stores and farms where they were purchased or given away?
All the comments about the furniture being too small: have you seen the pet store rabbit cages?They are like a large shoe box…and many rabbit hitches at farm stores or the diy plans are smaller than the ones made from furniture shown here. The one built from an entertainment center seems like a larger size. Any rabbit cage should be for sleeping and nest areas for a secure safe space, but they should be taken out regularly and daily to have space to play, roam, etc.
These are all cute & everything but where are the plans for the rabbit hutch with the automatic poop collector which was what I clicked on the article for!
Like many others have pointed out, most of these would be miserable homes for your rabbit. But I once an aviary fashioned out of a console TV. So I would like to point out that each of these could be modified for smaller animals. Like my sister turned a cabinet into a 5 story world for her pet rats.
My bunny is out all day with me because I don’t work and follows me and/Or family through the house. He is in a xxl dog crate, the size for a Saint Bernard. I would like opinions on if this is appropriate for night time. It is always kept open during the day and he does go in and naps and eats and uses his potty. I know bunnies need not only time to run but also a lot of socialization and bonding time. He definitely gets A LOT of that. So I just want some opinions- if I’m doing something you view wrong please let me know, but maybe without being mean or rude. He goes in willingly at bedtime because he knows he gets a couple cookies and extra veggies. In the morning he does hop right out though. The vet says one thing but websites say other things, sometimes more strict than my vet. It’s hard to know what is best for him. Thanks for any feedback!
Not everyone has the means to have a rabbit inside roaming around. This is better than a regular rabbit hutch, more creative, and more space. If we lived in a perfect world where rabbits could roam freely in and out of the house, that’s great. But as temporary means, this is great.

Also better than being outside forgotten and neglected
I don’t think it is fair to judge rabbit owners based on how much space they have for their rabbit(s). This is definitely much better than the average marketed cage. Though I agree, you shouldn’t keep your rabbit in a cage unless you are going to give them time to exercise and hop around outside. Let’s remember not everyone has the room to free-range.
Use the cheap clear plastic car mats to line the shelves they can remove easily and spray off with the hose can also be cut size.they are like 4$ at walmart for a set of 4
