BMW Isetta 300 & Mini Caravan

The Isetta is an Italian-designed microcar. Because of its egg shape and bubble-like windows, it became known as a bubble car, a name also given to other similar vehicles.
In 1955, the BMW Isetta became the world’s first mass-production car to achieve a fuel consumption of 3 L/100 km. It was the top-selling single-cylinder car in the world, with 161,728 units sold.
Initially manufactured by the Italian firm Iso SpA, the name Isetta is the Italian diminutive form of ISO, meaning little ISO.

That was my 1st car back in 62’. It had bee my grandfather’s golf cart. It was fun but the boys in my high school used to pick it up and turn it sideways in the parking lot at school. I used to say it could go 45 down hill with a strong tail wind.

Love that the trunk is literally a trunk strapped on to the back. I could so rock one of these.

I had one in 1964-????. I had the same problem. I once found it in the high school gym. How they had gotten it in still stumps me. As for speed, since I had the big engine (300cc), I could lay rubber in all 4 gears. I remember one time I did a drag race with a FULLY LOADED cement truck and LOST!!!

As I mention to my various friends when these get brought up, my dad cut up at least 3 of them back in the 1970s because and I quote “their frames made the BEST motorcycle trailers!”, which depending on the person either brings out a ‘different times’ chuckle – or – that pained expression and flutter of rage that just ran over your face and through your body.

My dad had one of these in the 1960s. It spent a lot of time in the repair shop, but we had fun when it WAS fixed. His friends carried it up some steps to a concrete porch one night when he was at a meeting in town.
