Baking something special for the holiday is a real adventure. Sliding through the various recipes you find online, avoid making the same mistakes as other home cooks, and trying to come up with an original product. We already posted a recipe for Nutella-bread and recently a brioche in the shape of a Christmas tree.

This recipe is a little confusing/frustrating. Is the second amount of butter an additional amount from what you started with or are you supposed to set aside 40g of butter before mixing up the dough? Also are you supposed to stack all of the dough on top of each other so you have four layers and then cut out the christmas tree shape? What do you do with what you have left over (cut away). I may try this (eventually) and post corrections if I figure it out.

Parece ser muito bom, mas não da para entender.

Our not understand anything ….. please explain better.
Seems to be very good, but not to understand

Awesome idea! Except, here is what I would do to make it A LOT easier:
Step 1: buy a can of Pillsbury crescent rolls.
    Step 2: unroll dough
Step 3: spread a satisfying amount of Nutella
Step 4: fold dough in half to form a triangle
Step 5: trim to help it form a better triangle and use trimmed pieces to form the “trunk”
Step 6: Cut and twist the tree as directed
Step 7: give the dough an egg-white wash
Step 8: Decorate the tree with dried cranberries, M&Ms, sprinkles, etc . . .
Step 9: Follow baking directions from the Pillsbury can
Step 10: Once out of the oven, dust lightly with powdered sugar
I also highly recommend providing dipping sauces like peanut butter, cool whip or, heck, even more Nutella. It would also be good w/ sliced strawberries and bananas!
This could also be done with cinnamon, sugar on the inside instead of Nutella. Yum! If you decide to do it this way, be sure to put pea-sized dabs of butter throughout the inside of the dough before folding it over. I would then recommend decorating with raisins and sliced almonds, but keep the powdered sugar!

Now that makes sense. I will be trying this for Christmas. Wish me luck.
I will post after I make it and let you know how it turned out. Thanks

      Wonderful directions Linzi, Thank you!

I would add nutmeg, cinnamon, (small) pieces of a darker quality chocolate and maybe some winter fruit, like candied oranges or thin apple slices. They’d complement the nutella well and help people who don’t like chocolate that much find alternate tastes in the tree. And make it more christmassy!

So, according to the instructions, you do all the shaping and braiding and then try to put it on a baking sheet???? How in the world do you accomplish that? Wouldn’t it be easier to shape and braid on the baking sheet instead of trying to move it once it is all shaped?? In any case, sounds way too complicated for me with all the other baking and cooking there is to do…beautiful finished product, but I don’t have the time nor the patience to do that.

Do the assembly and cutting on parchment paper, then slide the paper onto the baking sheet, leave on the paper for baking.

  5. Cordelia says:

It’s not confusing at all… the second lot of butter is simply used as a wash to help brown it up in the oven…

  6. Charlene says:

I love this idea and was thinking the same thing as Linzi. It doesn’t really matter what you put inside as long as it is shaped like a tree and you cut the slits and twist them.
I am going to make it for my Christmas Party. I am not sure what the inside will be yet. thanks 🙂

  7. David says:

I’m glad I wasn’t the only confused person reading this recipe

  8. Petra says:

How about Raspberry jam instead of Nutella because of nut allergies or Pizza sauce in between the layers and serve with marinara sauce for a less sweet treat.

  9. Lynne says:

This is a terribly written recipe. Im sure this method can be found elsewhere guys. Good luck !

  10. Terri says:

there is a video included that shows the whole process from mixing to baking. ☺️th tree is made on top of parchment paper so that it slides right onto a cookie sheet. It looks really fun and easy if you watch the video.

Comments are confusing me, because I don’t see a written version of the recipe but I did watch the video and it seemed very straight forward, to me.
But I’m thinking cream cheese/cinnamon roll, because I despise nutella.

I would use flaky pastry use tomato paste mozzarella or any cheese, few fresh herbs, then decorate with halved black & green olives also cut circles of red peppers, not forgetting to cut a star out of cheese for the top mmmm could just eat that right now
