Couple Builds A Customized Giant Bed So All Of Their Rescue Dogs Can Sleep Together With Them

Having several pets means that you need extra space where you can all cuddle together. Dog owners probably experience the lack of space more frequently as their furry friends are growing so fast and will take ownership of the bed in no time. And if you have more than 1 dog, how can you not let them all sleep in your bed? You can’t just pick your favorite and leave the rest behind, right?

That’s why one couple decided to build a custom bed that is large enough for the entire family, pets included. Chris and Marisea Hughes are the proud parents of 8 rescue dogs, but their bed started to get very small for everyone to comfortably sleep in it. That’s when they decided to ask a furniture maker to build a large bed for them, one that is 14 feet long and 7 feet wide.
Since all of the dogs wanted to sleep beside them, on many nights they just ended up sleeping on the couch or being pushed on the floor.

To solve this problem, they ordered the custom mega bed and now they can all enjoy a good night’s sleep together. It took 6 months to build such a large bed, which also has a set of stairs so the senior dogs can climb it easily.

It was designed by Mike Ford, who besides the drawers and blanket storage also added a beautiful hand-carved paw print to the headboard. Rescuing senior dogs has been a lifelong mission for the Hughes and they have a non-profit called Mr. Mo Project that takes care of senior and sick dogs.

Unfortunately, the number of abandoned animals in the US is still very high; around 3.3 million dogs and 3.2 million cats end up in shelters across the US every year. The younger ones get adopted much faster and sadly, older animals will never again find a forever home for themselves. That’s why NGO’s like Mr. Mo Project should be encouraged and supported by the public.

My husband and I have had rescued and/or adopted dogs – as many as nine at a time. We moved from Florida to Pennsylvania in June of 2019. At that time we had eight rescue dogs. A few months later our oldest dog, Shiloh, a Shepherd Chow passed away. But our seven other dogs are still going strong. I love the idea of a huge bed like that because almost all of them want to be on the bed with us. And they just don’t fit on a normal king size bed. None of them are larger than 25 lb and the smallest one is a 5lb chihuahua. Most of them want to sleep right on your face so we sleep in separate queen size beds. I have three that sleep on my bed and my husband has two that will sleep on his and the other two sleep in doggie beds on the floor One is totally blind and he sleeps on the floor and one is partially blind and she sleeps on the floor. They seem to prefer that and we’re happy because they won’t fall off the bed in the middle of the night. Anyway, I really enjoyed the story. Keep up the good work. ?
