DIY Pallet Daybed

Wondering how to improve the design of your yard or patio? Here is a nice tutorial on how to flip an outdated folding guest bed and turn it into a DIY patio day bed. In less than a couple of hours, you too could have a functional and beautiful piece of patio furniture. Pay attention to the instructions listed below and to the pictures provided. Here is the list of necessary materials:

• four same-size pallets (avoid the ones stamped MB or DBMB, they’re not for safe use);
• mattress (from folding bed);
• jigsaw;
• a wedge and mallet;
• screws;
• half a dozen of planks (for facing);
• water-based fence paint;

The design of the patio bed is quite simple and it involves placing together 2 sets of pallets stacked-upon each other. The picture is self-explanatory. Next, the mattress might be a bit too narrow for the pallets, so use the jigsaw to slice off the excess wood, meaning one plank from each pallet. Then work with a mallet and a wedge to firstly separate the supporting blocks from between the planks and secondly to screw them back in the new positions. Move onto making an attractive facing for the pallet furniture from some planks you can buy at your local hardware store. You could use the excess planks from building the facing, to make a rudimentary enclosed table. Check the photos to see the different design used on this last block. Apply two coats of the paint when all of the above are in place and you’re done!

    Just found an idea how to reuse my toddler’s mattress. They grow so fast and I don’t want to throw it away yet. Thanks!
