If you want to improve your home décor, if you want to give it a more natural look, you will love this next tutorial. Transforming a regular mat in your home into a creative handmade carpet is exactly what your interior needs. Here is what items are necessary in order to make this example of a lovely DIY stone carpet:

• a rubber welcome mat;
• some contact adhesive;
• four bags of river rocks;

The first step involves making sure you have the design all settled out. Maybe do drawing on a paper to use as a guideline throughout your project. Then, take the mat and spread glue on the whole surface. Begin arranging the river rocks from the bags. It’s recommended you start from the center and work your way outward. When you’re done with the arrangement, leave it to dry for up to one whole day. It looks awesome! It feels great when you step on it as well!

    It looks like a perfectly straight ‘puzzle’ border was set down first. True?

    Does the glue go thru the holes of the grip mat?? How do u stop this??

    Jennifer in the instructions it calls for a rubber welcome mat. You are right the gripper stuff would end up stuck to the floor before you were done making your mat!

      You may have to put down a heavy plastic sheet under the grip mat and then when it dries pull it off.

    Perhaps arranging the rocks onto a piece of paper upside down? Then you can spread the glue on the mat, carefully lay it over the rocks and wait for it to dry… not sure that would work, but I might give it a try.

    I would love to pin this but Pinterest says it has been detected as spam. 🙁

    I think the glue would seep over the other rocks and make a mess. Would be easier to buy 12×12 stone tiles and save a lot of work.

    You could probably put some wax paper underneath to catch any drips. The adhesive wouldn’t stick to the wax very well and if it did it would be on the underside. I imagine cooking spray would work too.

    What about using the non slip rubber mat that go under carpets?
    There are no holes in that for the glue to go thru
    just a suggestion
    I have seen the non slip mats without the gridded holes in them

  9. Beatriz says:

    How is it with humidity? Do the rocks get moldy or can it be cleaned?

    Well you could always go outside and glue it over some old newspaper! Lol or just buy a non slip sturdy bath tub/shower matt.
