Forget Drive-Ins: Paris Hosts Floating Movie Theater With Socially Distant Boats On Seine River

The coronavirus pandemic brought a lot of changes to everyday life and once summer came, social distancing started to become even harder. Once lockdowns ended and people started roaming on the streets, a lot of large cities had to come up with creative ways of spending summer outdoors safely.

One such amazing idea was born in Paris, where outdoor movie nights moved right on the river Seine. Instead of setting up classic drive-in movie theaters, Parisians came up with the idea of floating movie theaters. Visitors can safely enjoy a movie with family and friends, directly from a boat floating on the river Seine, starting from the 18th of July.

The temporary movie theater is called “Cinema sur l’Eau”, which means cinema on the river, and it’s an event organized each year by the city of Paris. The context now is even more fitting than ever and 38 electric boats are made available to the public.

Each both can host up to 6 people and those onboard must be families or a group of friends, to keep thing safe and respect the imposed social distancing measures. Parisians even got the chance to win tickets to the screening through an online lottery and enjoy the opening of the summer season right on the river Seine.
