Off The Grid: Living off land hour from Vancouver

offthegrid

If you still can’t imagine how a completely off-the-grid city can function, the island featured on this web page offers the great opportunity to see the concept working in good conditions. Home to 426 people, Lasqueti embodies every sustainable project you might have seen up to date. From growing vegetables and small animals in their yards to harnessing solar and wind power, you have the chance to see them in action here. Located between Vancouver and Vancouver Island, Lasqueti s big enough for an eco-friendly community: 12 miles long and 3 miles wide. The inhabitants of the city drive their life according to this idea: harmony with nature. The practical side of this, besides the fact there is a zero carbon footprint on the island, you stumble upon some awesome things like the free food store where people give their surplus produce expecting no money in return. Check out the link below so you can find out how you can take a short trip there, with possible bonus features, such as food & accommodation for helping on the farm. Before you pack though, remember this advice from the locals: the place is not an utopia, it’s just a small community of open people so try not to make unrealistic expectations and visit with the idea of discovery in mind.

Tiki Smith, your lifestyle is so admirable, why would you tarnish who you are as a person by breeding dogs. Please see this website to see what happens to the dogs that breeders such as yourself create. So sad, you seem like an amazing person. saintrescue.org/breeding.html
